Crim Czech
Visual Identity
Client: Faculty of Law, Charles University
Finalist Proposal, not realised
Year: 2026
Brief
Design a visual identity for the newly established CrimCzech research centre at the Faculty of Law, Charles University, including a logo and applications for both digital and print outputs. The aim was to create a contemporary communication system reflecting the academic environment and the centre’s data-driven research.
Concept and solution
The design uses brackets as a reference to programming syntax and working with data, as well as a symbol of a clearly defined space for debate and research and a metaphor for the limits and boundaries inherent in sentencing. The brackets, constructed from rectangles, are further developed throughout the visual identity. The typographic system draws on the structure of legal texts. The text hierarchy follows the logic of § – paragraph – letter – point, using brackets and dots to distinguish individual levels instead of conventional indentation.
